A Targeted Approach
Indy CARES is a shelter diversion program serving Indianapolis Animal Care Services and the residents of our city who are at-risk of surrendering their pet. By offering solutions and utilizing community resources, we provide an alternative to pet owners who feel they need to surrender to Indianapolis Animal Care Services.
We offer free or discounted vaccines, spay/neuter assistance, veterinary care, behavior modification training, pet food, pet supplies, and so much more. In this way we strive to lower the number of animals entering our city shelter and keep pets in homes with the families that love them.
Mission – Empowering Indianapolis pet owners to responsibly care for their companion animals by connecting them with community resources, education, and support.
Vision – By offering alternatives to pet surrender, we can decrease the number of animals entering our city shelter and work to make Indianapolis a no-kill city.
Who We Serve – We serve pet owners in the Indianapolis/Marion County area who are at-risk of surrendering to Indianapolis Animal Care Services
About Us
Indy CARES was created in 2018 by dedicated animal welfare advocates who saw the need for a more proactive approach to serving our community. By offering solutions to pet owners who are considering surrender, we work to keep animals out of our city shelter and in homes with families that love them.
Indy CARES is funded through the Friends of Indianapolis Animal Care Services, a 501 c(3) organization that works to help save lives and support the welfare of our city’s shelter animals. Indianapolis Animal Care Services receives nearly 12,000 animals each year. We strive to lower the number of animals surrendered at our city shelter, and hope to one day make Indianapolis a No-Kill city.
